I’ve got a bit of an obsession with this insanely uhmazing DJ from Tel Aviv, Shai Vardi, going by the name Virgin Magnetic Material. His beats are deep and funky and he’s not shy about remixin old classics. Check out a few tracks below and become a fan on Facebook to be the first to snag his latest releases.

Indie rock quintet, Caveman, is making a serious entrance onto our playlists, ipods, and music apps with their debut album CoCo Beware. Their sound is wonderous and seductive, similar to that of Tennis or Youth Lagoon. Check ‘em out here because it’s certain you’ll be seeing more of them at a summer festival near you.

Well my tiny dancers, the best weekend of the year is just days away! (I’ve been waiting to say that for forever.) We’re all smitten with Justice, Calvin, Bon Iver and the Shins, but what about those itsy bitsy bands on the lineup that have got to be good to be invited but maybe you’ve only heard of once or twice or never? Yep, I’m talking about the THE COACHELLA FINE PRINT. Here are my picks, no reading glasses necessary…
1. Givers (Friday)
I have NO idea why these guys are on so incredibly early in the day. Hailing from Louisiana, they’re an indie pop group that just plays happy music.
2. Breakbot (Friday)
This will be my first stop in the Sahara tent and shit is gonna get DISCOtastic!
3. Dragonette (Saturday)
… Not to be confused with Little Dragon. Not that I did that at SXSW or anything. This gal is adorable and bad ass at the same time. Many don’t know that she is the woman behind “Hello”, the crazy popular electronic hit from last year, and has a ton of killer new jams to boot.
4. Gary Clark Jr. (Saturday)
Skip The Black Keys and hit Gary up instead. Some critics say he’s a young Jimi Hendrix. I just think he makes beautiful rock n’ roll soul.
5. Real Estate (Sunday)
They have dreamy beach rock nailed. The perfect sound for a hungover Sunday in the desert sun.
6. Spector (Sunday)
This UK boy group has a new wave electronic sound and catchy melodies. I’m curious to see how they groove live!
And of course, if you can’t part from your blow up pool toy in time to make it to the festival for these fine printers, no worries! At least (well, I hope) you’ve discovered some new gems here.

Ay ay ay… so much new music to be consumed lately!!! If you’re bored with the same ‘ol songs on your ipod, check out a few of my favorite new artists. They’re young, fresh and ready to eat on up.
1. Bright Moments, “Travelers”
Sounds like: Beruit, The Walkmen
2. Teen Daze, “Let’s Groove Tonight”
Sounds like: Well, on a normal day, Youth Lagoon. On this track, French Horn Rebellion or Star Slinger
3. The Lumineers, “Flowers in You Hair”
Sounds like: Givers, The Head and the Heart
4. Coco Morier, “Explosions”
Sounds like: Little Boots, Lykke Li
5. Lanie Lane, “What Do I Do”
Sounds like: Amy Winehouse, Alice Russell
Check back in a few days for a post on the Coachella Fine Print (aka the “no-namers”) you don’t wanna miss…

Prepare to be blown away by Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers. It’s not just the sweet vocals or the killer guitarist or the use of whistling that makes we smile, it’s their humble nature and the ease with which they create music… in a VAN (which may or may not be down by a river.) Check out these three covers that reinvent the music of our parent’s age:

I’m loving this whimsical version of The Everly Brother’s “All I have to do is dream” by the LA duo Tashaki Miyaki. Perfect for a snoozy Sunday and it might even make Grandma change her mind! Download here.

From the amazing BBQ to the rocking parties at Hype Hotel and the W, to a Friday night VIP jam sesh with Skrillex, I’d say Austin was a pretty honky-tonk good time. While there were just too many good shows to name, here are my top 5 in the new artist category:
1. Star Slinger
With a rhythm similar to Gramatik, this dude samples sick soul songs and gets his disco on like no other.
2. Electric Wire Hustle
Smooth, soulful and full of hustle… the good kind.
3. Polica
With sexy, inquisitive vocals and a female lead that slithers across the stage like a snake, they are indie rock at its finest.
4. Alabama Shakes
They might not be totally new, but their southern innocence and their ever so careful xylophone player make them incredibly lovable.
5. Fun.
That’s what they are.
6 (Extra Credit). Gary Clark, Jr.
Some say he’s the new Jimi Hendrix. I just think he’s raw rock n’ roll. mmmmmm.
